Kazakhstan is located in the center of the Eurasian continent occupying the ninth largest land area in the world. Kazakhstan is an upper-middle-income country, where the national poverty rate fell from 47 percent in 2001 to 3 percent in 2013. From the moment of gaining independence in 1991, GDP per capita has increased by 16 times - from 700 to 12 000 US dollars. With a robust political system of presidential and parliamentary democracy, the economy was mainly benefiting from large oil export revenues.
Still the future is not without challenges. Kazakhstan’s ambitious objective of joining the rank of the top 30 most developed countries by 2050 will depend on its ability to diversify the economy and sustain inclusive growth. Enhancing medium- to long-term development prospects will also depends on Kazakhstan’s success in creating highly skilled human capital, improving the quality of physical infrastructure, and strengthening institutional efficiency.
