ICD is a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group. The IsDB is a multilateral development bank working to improve the lives of people across its 57 member countries by promoting social and economic development in accordance with the principles of Islamic finance. As the founding institution, the IsDB plays a central role in ICD's mission and strategic direction.

The first national commercial bank established on 13 June 1966, performing all activities of a bank deposit. It provides financial services including trade associations and businesses, handling all banking, currency and credit under the law and the regulation of banks. Its capital was significantly increased in June 2009 through the issue of 27,000 new shares subscribed and held by the Treasury.

The Public Investment Fund (PIF) was established by Royal Decree No. M/24 in 1971. Its purpose is to provide financing support to productive projects of a commercial nature and strategically significant for the development of the national economy, which cannot be implemented by the private sector alone due to insufficient experience or inadequate capital resources.

Bank Melli Iran developed into an active and dynamic element in the country's economic advancement. In 1931, parliament granted it sole powers to issue banknotes, establishing it as the country's bank of issue. The Agricultural Development Bank of Iran (ADBI) was founded in 1969 to finance large-scale development projects in the agricultural sector. Following the Islamic revolution, two prior banks were merged to form Bank Keshavarzi, which provides quality banking services to the rural population and the agriculture sector across the country.
